Changes. No one likes change. That is the fundamental truth about human beings. And yet change is inevitable. So why can’t we accept change readily? Is it because of comfort? Is it because we are afraid of the unknown? Well, changes come in many forms. Positive and the not so positive changes. For example, positive change could be promotion at work, marriage, having children (because the life dynamics involved change), graduating, getting that first job. Then, we have the not so positive changes. Such as demotion at work, getting fired from work, divorce, loosing a child and even moving regions/ places.
So how do you deal with change? I’d love to know because i am not a fan. Are you so easy going that you just take it in stride or is it because you are so used to change that you have become accustomed to it? Well, whatever your secret, please share with me. I do not readily accept change. Especially if i had not instigated it. I become anxious and i almost always try to resist. I think i am one of those people whom God has to make my situation so uncomfortable, so unbearable til i look outside and think that anywhere is better than where i am at. I learnt my lesson the hard way. So nowadays, i am very cautious about change. I try…(yes, try-baby steps my friends)-to look at it in a 360 degree fashion. But mostly i try to see if it is God wanting me to make a move, a change from the state i am in.
I believe that the most difficult change is that of oneself. The change from inside is very difficult and you have to look at yourself critically and make the decision. What i wonder is, is it because we like to hide behind something. Think about it, every time something happens, where is your hiding place? Is it blame? Every single time something happens, especially something negative, you are quick to throw blame in someone else’s direction. Its never your fault. Do statements like these run in your day today vocabulary? “It’s my boss, it’s my wife, it’s my husband, it’s my co-worker, even at times it’s my children”Well, if my wife hadn’t done this or done this, i wouldn’t have looked for a mistress,…if my husband was this then i wouldn’t or would be this. And it goes on and on and on.Blame. That’s your first line of defense.
For others they run towards unexpectation. They never expect anything. And the reason they give…if you don’t expect, then they will not be disappointed when it doesn’t happen. As a Christian, i find this a very sad way of life. We are saved by grace. We receive grace through faith. Receive. Not Get. Because to get something means you have to work for it. You put effort and are rewarded with a result. But none of us can work for our salvation. You just sit back, relax and deeply and honestly, tell God that you want Him in your life. Confess by your words that you repent of your sins and that Jesus is the son of God and He died on the cross for your sins and transgressions . Just like that, you become an heir to the Kingdom. How amazing is that!! Receive. Receive the Holy Spirit. Everything about God is about receiving. You don’t have to do anything to make yourself worthy. Because even before you made up your mind to follow Him, He already loved you. Jehovah is Lord indeed. So yes…what was i saying, living a life of low or no expectation just to avoid being disappointed. I truly believe this is a lie the enemy has perpetuated to the point of some people live by this belief. Jesus Christ died so that we can live in ABUNDANCE! Put your faith in this promise. And you will never live a life of low expectations. You will pray, ask and EXPECT to receive. In other words, have Faith. Not because you deserve it but because of who He is. He is faithful in His promises. My friends, if there is something i do not want to happen is when my time is over here on earth, is for God to show me the picture of how grand my life here on earth would have been if only i had dared to believe. Dared to have faith. Dared to expect. Because, there is nothing that you can think of that your Father in heaven has not thought for you already. As His child, He wants to give it all to you. He is just waiting, at the edge of His throne for you to ask, have faith and expect. Nothing is too big or too small for Him who created you. No aspect of your life is insignificant. And the best part, He wants to be involved.
So if you want to have a safe and secure hiding place, run towards Jesus. When the troubles of this earth make you weary, run to Him. Remember, He never promised that it would be easy. He promised that His grace will be sufficient and will carry us through. I literally picture in my mind resting my head on the lap of Jesus while sitting at His feet. When i am so tired and i need to be recharged, i go before Him and just lay my head in His lap and tell Him to take over. The picture is normally so vivid in my mind. I can’t honestly tell you that i see a difference immediately. But somehow, i don’t know how, but slowly and surely, the situation stops looking as dire as it had before I went to Him. I don’t know how He does it, and I am content not knowing, but i know i always receive His comfort.
As we set ourselves to follow Him, let us know that we have a hiding place. No matter the change that goes on in our lives. He is right there with us. And He promises to be there in our situations. To help us through it all. To be our Rock. Be of cheer my friend, there’s not just light at the end of the tunnel, the light is within each and every one of us.
And May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us now and forever more, Amen.
